The Jamerson family is from Western North Carolina. The name has been spelled in a wide range of ways over the years and can be hard to trace. I have seen Jamerson, Jimison, Jimieson, Jimeson, Jemison, Gimason, Jimmason, and Jamesson.

I am currently blocked with John Wesley Jamerson (born circa 1818 in N. C. and died before 1880). I know he had a mother named Susannah that was born circa 1794 in North Carolina. He also had a relative, Thomas Jamerson born circa 1812 in N. C., living with him in 1850 that may have been a brother. He shows up in the 1840 Burke County ("on the South side of the Catawba River & West Side of the North Fork" a part that is in modern McDowell County) census as Jno W Jimison, then in the 1850 McDowell county census as J W Jimieson, then the 1860 Madison county census as John W. Jemison, and finally in the 1870 Yancey county census as J W Gimason. Note that the Caney River township in Yancy county is near the Madison county line; the family may not have moved locations between 1860 and 1870 as there may have been confusion about the boundary between the counties.
There are other Jamersons (with various spelling variants) living in the area and a DNA connection between my mother (Betty Ann Jamerson) and a descendant of Samuel and Alexander Jameson that married a Nancy Duncan (with no other shared ancestors that I can find) so I strongly suspect the families are from a common Jameson/Jamerson source.
I am listing information as I come across it about unconnected individuals below that are not integrated into the family tree. If I have time I may work through them to see if any relationships can be worked out.
