He (SMK) lived in a log cabin that was later converted into part of a barn. I remember the steps and entry door and half dove tail notched logs that made up the walls. It burned down in the 1990s. My uncle Ott saw the smoke and grabbed his gun and shot at the people that started the fire and ran them off but it was too late and the entire building burned down. He also build a house that my grandmother lived in when I was young. I remember people commenting on the giant rocks used to build the base of the chimney and how they had to be transported there. Other stories that were passed down by my father, aunts, and great uncles were that he liked to go to auctions and would come back with all kinds of things, one time "he came back with a goat". He "gave away" land to friends of his and there was ill will in the family about this. I remember in particular my great uncle WAK Jr. talking about this and saying that "we could have used that land". When it rained he would stand out in the yard and say "they're catching it over there" pointing in the distance where the clouds were darker and the rain was coming down. My grandmother thought this was funny because according to her it was raining just as hard where he was. My father said that my grandfather told him that he was very strong. If he could get his shoulder under something he could lift it. One day on election day his wife (MLP) tricked him and locked him in the smoke house so that he couldn't go to town to the election. Back then it turned into a party and all of the men would drink at the bars in town; she didn't want him going.
