My grandmother said he knew when his father (my grandfather) got home. He would start looking around for him. I'm told my grandfather would carry him around and talk to him for hours after getting home. His death was tragic. It was very sudden and unexpected, spinal meningitis. Almost 60 years later my grandmother woke up suddenly in the hospital, disoriented, and asked about Earl. My grandparents wanted a gravestone but were too poor to afford it when he died. My uncle Bill bought a gravestone and had it placed at Earl's grave before he (uncle Bill) died.
