"[Samuel] left his home in Tipperary, sailed from Cork, and settled near present-day Danielsville, GA,in 1785, according to a letter dated May 1785 written to his brother John in Cashel. Although the ship Samuel came over on (left Cork Dec 1783, arrived SC Feb 1784), put in to Charleston, that is not where it was bound. It was bound for Philadelphia, but all the northern ports were closed due to bad weather. The[ ]crossing took only 3 weeks, but they spent 5 more weeks looking for an open harbor. Charleston was the first port they were able to access. [...] Nancy was remarried to a Mr. Benton. Two of Nancy's sons were living in other households, probably the people they were apprenticed to. Story is that Willis did not like Mr. Benton, so he left GA and went to MS to live with his mother's brother, Thomas Deen/Dean, who was a JP in Rankin Co."
