Home > Family History > Names > Double Naming Convention
Some female names follow a naming convention of two names together. The first is two syllables and the second is one syllable. The name is both of these said together, never individually, as a single name although they are rarely hyphenated in writing. For example "Ella Mae" would not be referred to as just "Ella" or abbreviated as "Ella M.".
